Making Democracy Work

League Weighs In

League Action Needed on US House Resolution (H.R.) 3144

(1) Here's what's happening: HR 3144 - the harmful, anti-salmon, anti-orca bill introduced in Congress by Cathy McMorris Rodgers last year - was passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee yesterday. It is headed for a floor vote before the full House of Representatives later this month.

(2) Here's what you can do (the alert): Send a letter to your member of Congress today. Help us show Congress there's strong support for wild salmon and healthy rivers. Ask your member of Congress to oppose HR 3144 when it comes to a vote.

This bill is very bad news not just for salmon, orca and fishing communities; it is also bad for federal laws, treaties and the courts - as it seeks to overturn several court rulings, roll back court-ordered salmon protections at the Columbia and Snake River dams, and derail an important court-ordered environmental review that must look at all salmon recovery options - including the removal of the lower Snake River dams.
